We're Jamaal and Sherwin. We look after the houses of our neighbors — the small repairs nobody calls back about, the custom shutters and doors we're a little bit famous for, and the lighting that makes a house glow at night. Same two faces every visit. Shoes off at the door.

What we do

Two of us, one van, and a list we actually finish. The custom work is the headline; the rest is the steady work we've done for years.

Floor-to-ceiling shutters, sliding doors built plank by plank, and accent walls fitted to rooms that were never square. It starts with samples on your coffee table — wood, finish, hardware — and ends with us adjusting every panel by hand until it glides.

Patches that vanish and rooms cut in by hand. We look for where the water came from before we close a ceiling back up, and we move the furniture ourselves.

Anything that arrived in a flat box, plus televisions, mirrors, curtain rods, grab bars and shelves — into studs or proper anchors, level, tested. The cardboard leaves with us.

How a visit goes

You tell us the trouble

A note, a call, or a photo by text. We'll ask a couple of questions and say what we think.

We come and look

Free, and in writing afterwards. Small jobs we often just do on the spot if you'd like.

The day itself

Drop cloths down, materials at cost with the receipts, and the dust vacuumed before we go.

And afterwards

If anything we did moves or fails inside a year, call us and we'll come back and fix it.

Jamaal Rookard & Sherwin Lake

Sherwin owned and ran Atlas Installations for years — the shutter, door, and cabinet work half the neighborhood still points to is his. Jamaal grew up on his stepfather's job sites, handing up boards before he could drive, and came back to the trade for good in 2011. Rookard & Rest is the two of us carrying that work forward under a new name.

We stayed two people on purpose: it means we're the ones who show up, we remember your house, and we'd rather tell you a job doesn't need doing than sell you one that doesn't.

How we like to work

Honest before eager

If a repair will hold another five years, we'll say so. If it's outside what we're good at, we'll hand you a name we trust.

Quiet and tidy

Drop cloths, shoes off, no radio unless you want one, and everything back where it was before we leave.

Clear about money

A written estimate first, materials at cost with receipts, and no charge for the run to the hardware store.
